It will soon be easier to travel over the Andrews Drive Route 40 overpass into the Wolfe Industrial Park in Greenville.
At Tuesday night’s Greenville City Council meeting, councilmen approved a contract with Wissehr Electric of Belleville to install lights on the overpass. The firm was the low of three bidders at $157,998.86.
The overpass was constructed a few years ago using money from state and federal grants. There was money left over and city officials consulted with the Illinois Department of Transportation to add lights. This process also took several years, but now IDOT has approved the lighting project.
Mayor Alan Gaffner said the necessary funding was received with the help of Congressman John Shimkus and US Senator Dick Durbin.

Grant funds also paid for the engineering work needed to design the lighting project.
Lights should be shining on the overpass before the end of the year.
