Christopher Derleth, age 39, is back in Illinois and being held in the Madison County jail in Edwardsville.
He is charged with aggravated kidnapping and parental abduction after allegedly taking his 13-year-old step-daughter and her infant son on September 18 from their foster home in the Edwardsville area.
At the time of the alleged incident, Derleth was living in Greenville, according to Bond County State’s Attorney Chris Bauer.
Derleth and the children were found on September 24 in West Virginia. He was arrested on the two Madison County charges, and eventually waived extradition to Illinois.
A Bond County court order had been issued to prevent Derleth from having any contact with his step-daughter.
State’s Attorney Bauer told WGEL that Derleth is the subject of more than one criminal investigation in Bond County.
The defendant is being held in Madison County on $200,000 bond.
