Discussions are beginning regarding what to do about it.

At the recent city council meeting, Mayor Alan Gaffner reported he met with County Board Chairman Howard Elmore to talk about the facility. He said one of the main concerns discussed is the size of the pound. Gaffner said Jim Hess, the Animal Control Officer, is doing a great job and is bringing in more lost pets and stray animals, which may necessitate a new, larger facility.

The dog pound building is located on city-owned property at the west end of Winter Avenue.

The city and county share the costs to operate the pound and employ the animal control officer.

Greenville budgeted $25,000 in this year’s budget for dog pound improvements.
