The Illinois Education Association Region 5 has awarded community service grants to the two employee unions in the Bond County Unit 2 School District.
The Greenville Educational Support Personnel Association received a grant to assist Bond County Foster Hope, a grassroots organization committed to recruiting, educating and supporting local foster homes and adoptive families.
The Greenville Education Association was presented two grants. One is for the high school’s Comet Closet, which provides clothing, shoes, winter coats and hygiene products to students in need.
The other grant will assist Unit 2’s Backpack Program, which is supported by both unions and provides emergency weekend food to 50 students in the district.
Scott Spencer, president of the GEA, said the grants allow Unit 2 staff members and teachers to continue their good work for others. He said the grants are a small example of the selfless sacrifices that many teachers make.
