Health Board Hears Flu, Zika & West Nile Update


In the recent Bond County Board of Health meeting, Public Health Administrator Mark Ayers reported that the health department has distributed nearly 200 high-dose flu vaccinations so far this year. Over 100 adult doses and nearly 50 doses of the children’s flu shot have been distributed. Board member Dr. Tom Dawdy reported that there has not been much flu activity yet this season.

Ayers also reported that there are 75 known cases of the Zika virus in the state and none in Bond County. There are also no cases of West Nile virus in Bond County. 63 mosquito batches were tested this year, all with negative results.

The board approved the renewal of the agreement with the local farmer who tends the farmland adjacent to the health department.

Ayers announced that the health department had received national accreditation for its Bond County Healthy Families program. The accreditation is through September 2020.
