Raising Backyard Chickens

Have you ever wanted to raise backyard chickens, but did not know how to get started? Are you interested in learning about the different breeds of chickens, and which is best for your farm?

These and other questions will be answered by University of Illinois Horticultural Extension Educator Andrew Holsinger. Andrew will be discussing issues related to raising backyard chickens, including choosing the best breed of chicken for your type of operation, brooding, housing, and feed, raising chickens in the winter, commitment of time, dealing with predators, selling eggs in Illinois, zoning in cities and towns, along with much more.

The program is scheduled for October 27, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00pm, and is being offered at the Bond County Extension Office, 925 East Harris in Greenville, Illinois. The cost for the program will be $5.00. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at https://web.extension.illinois.edu/registration/?RegistrationID=15096, or by calling the Bond County Extension Office at (618) 664-3665.

This is the second of five back-to-basics workshops being offered this fall. Each is tailored for the beginner, but also has great information for more experienced participants. For information on other workshops being offered, please go to http://web.extension.illinois.edu/bcjmw/.
