Robert F. Gebke


Robert F. Gebke, age 76 of Breese and formerly of Carlyle, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

Mr. Gebke was born in Bartelso on December 12, 1939, a son of Anthony and Regina (Wellinghoff) Gebke. He married JoAnn Carrigan on July 26, 1962, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Gebke is survived by his children – Lawrence “Larry” Gebke and wife Mary Jo of Effingham, Duane Gebke and wife Tami of Dalton City, and Cheryl Gruner and husband Rick of Pocahontas; his grandchildren – Joseph Gebke, Holly Gebke, Connor Gebke, Kyle Gebke, Heather Gebke, Joshua Gebke, Hannah Gebke, Nicholas Campbell, Lauren Campbell, Cortney Zbinden, Kyle Gruner, and Katie Gruner; a great grandchild – Everett Zbinden; and his former spouse – JoAnn Gray. Bob is also survived by his siblings – Theresa Jansen and husband Bob of Breese, Whitey Gebke of Bartelso, Eugene Gebke and wife Joann of Bartelso, and Regene Hekenkemper and husband Virgil of Albers; and 2 sisters-in-law – Ruth Gebke and Dolly Gebke, both of Bartelso.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by 3 brothers – Anthony Gebke, Jr., Tom Gebke, and Edwin “Butch” Gebke.

Mr. Gebke attended St. Cecilia Grade School and Aviston High School. He worked at Bartelso Grain Elevator for many years, and later worked at Wiegman Ford Motor Company and Farm Service, Inc. Bob enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball games, fishing, and playing cards.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso with Fr. Jim Buerster, celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia Church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Gebke may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and they will be accepted at the church or at Zieren Funeral Home.
