Roland O. Britt, age 100 of Smithboro, IL passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Helia Healthcare, Greenville, IL. Funeral service will be at Young Funeral Home, Greenville, IL on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10 am. Visitation will be at Young Funeral Home Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 4 pm. to 7 pm. Burial in Noffsinger Cemetery, Mulberry Grove, IL.
Roland was born on October 15, 1916, on the old family home, to Robert Casper Britt and Lucy Landolt Britt. He married Violet Virginia Brewer on April 2, 1942, at Terrapin Ridge at the Brewer family home.
He is survived by: his son, Donald (Sandra) Britt of Mulberry Grove, IL; daughters: Judy (Larry) Leidner of St. Louis, MO and Clarice Anne (Randy) Reitz of Greenville, IL; daughter in law, Linda Britt of Columbia, MO; and son in law Bob Short of Kalamazoo, MI.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Roland graduated from Greenville High School. He was a farmer, a postmaster for Smithboro, IL and sold insurance for Pana-Hillsboro. He was a World War 2 military veteran serving with the Army Air Corp as a Staff Sargent. He was an instructor and taught mechanics on B 24’s at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi. Roland served on the Board of Education, Mulberry Grove, for 8 years. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, Pleasant Mound, as well as, a volunteer fireman for the Smithboro Fire Department for 31 years, an American Legion member for 56 years and a Democratic Precinct Committeeman for pleasant Mound Township.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Britt; daughter, Betty Short; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
