UPDATE: Semi Truck Driver Dies Following Crash With Car On I-55

According to the Illinois State Police, Timothy Emerick, age 59, of Vandalia was the driver of the truck that collided with the rear of a car driven by 25 year-old Rozena Carter of Cahokia.

The accident occurred Saturday, October 8, at about 5:00 p.m., in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Rt. 40 in Troy. Both drivers were ARCHed from the scene to St. Louis University Hospital.

Timothy Emerick, the owner of a trucking firm and the driver of the semi, died of his injuries.

Carter was treated at the hospital and released.

According to Illinois State Police, the truck left the roadway and hit an embankment after the collision.

Traffic was shut down for about three hours during the accident investigation and clean-up.
