Teachers Contract

Negotiating committees have been meeting for a few months with the goal of reaching a new contract with Bond County Community Unit 2 teachers.

The Greenville Education Association and Unit 2 board committees have been unable to reach an agreement and are seeking the assistance of a mediator.

Unit 2 Superintendent Wes Olson told WGEL the two groups filed a request on September 27 with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to provide a mediator. He said a date for a session with a mediator has not been confirmed.

A mediator was used for the one-year contract that was settled in November of last year for the GEA.

According to the mediation service’s website, there is no charge to the parties for collective bargaining mediation, as the service receives appropriated funding to provide its labor-management services.

In August, the school board and Greenville Educational Support Personnel Association approved a new two-year contract with a one-half percent salary increase for both years.

The association represents bus drivers, food service personnel, para-professional teacher aides, custodians, maintenance workers, library clerks and some secretaries.
