Viola McCormick

Viola McCormick, age 94 of Mulberry Grove, Illinois, passed away 10:20 a.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Borlin Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials may be made to Borlin Cemetery or St. Jude’s Hospital.

C. Viola McCormick, the daughter of Ornan Harrison Cummings and Clara Mae Walters Cummings, was born December 1, 1921 in Eldred, Illinois. She grew up in Greene County, attended country schools and Mt. Gilead School in Greene County. She was one of eleven children, all who preceded her in death. Viola and James Lincoln McCormick were united in marriage on January 11, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage before his passing on May 23, 1994.

Viola and James lived in Granite City, Illinois and moved to the farm in Mulberry Grove, Illinois in 1961. She worked for John Crane in Vandalia, Illinois until 1989. They were members of the Liberty Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children: Donna Nicholas of Vandalia, Illinois, Darrell R. McCormick and wife Nancy of Coffeen, Illinois, Lonnie McCormick of St. Louis, Missouri, Earl McCormick and wife Debbie of Greenville, Illinois, Linda Sessions and husband Robert of Houston, Georgia, Marcia Schmollinger and husband Roy of Coffeen, Illinois and Audrey Kaiser and husband David of Vandalia, Illinois. She was the loving grandmother of 18, great-grandmother of 45 and great-great-grandmother of 4.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, son Kenneth E. McCormick and 2 grandchildren: Cody Williams and Nichole Schmollinger. Also preceded are her brothers and sisters: Delbert Cummings, Ornan Cummings, Donald Cummings, Jessie Sponsler, Bernita Varble, Geraldine Kraushaar, Wilma Thorton, Mable Retherford, Howard Cummings and Imogene Charpontier.
