Catherine M. “Kay” Forrest

Catherine M. “Kay” Forrest, age 87 of Carlyle, passed away at Breese Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Mrs. Forrest was born on May 19, 1929, in Carlyle, Illinois a daughter of Paul, Sr. and Opal (Rittenhouse) Seiffert. She married James P. Forrest at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle on April 20, 1955, and he survives.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Kay is also survived by her three children – Kris Huckshold and husband Karl of Nashville, David Forrest and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon, and Jef Forrest and wife Sharon of Collinsville; her grandchildren – Elizabeth Horstmeyer and special friend Todd Meyer, Andy Horstmeyer, Danielle Forrest, and Brandon Folsom and wife Marcie; 4 great grandchildren – Lily, Desiree, Jacob, and Daxton; 3 sisters – Ruth Peters, Betty Robben, and Mary Ade, all of Carlyle; 2 brothers – Leroy “Curly” Seiffert and wife Janis and Jim Seiffert and wife Clare, all of Carlyle; and a sister in law – Marge Seiffert of Carlyle.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by a sister – Virginia “Jane” Henn and her husband Glenn; a brother – Paul Seiffert, Jr.; and two brothers-in-law – Vince Peters and Tom Robben.

Mrs. Forrest worked at the First National Bank of Carlyle for 42 years. She began as a bookkeeper and retired as vice president. She thoroughly enjoyed her job, especially meeting new people. Kay enjoyed travelling to see our country’s sights and historical settings, and always made time to visit friends and family along the way. She loved family get-togethers, reunions, visiting with friends, and her card clubs. One of her favorite pastimes was her summer flower garden, where she could be seen on many mornings watering her flowers. Kay also enjoyed catching fish with her husband Jim as long as someone baited her hook and took off the fish she caught. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Committal rites will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, November 30 from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M.
