County Budget

The Bond County Board met in special session Tuesday morning and approved a budget for the fiscal year that begins December 1.

Overall, the budget totals $12.8 million, compared to $12.2 million this past year. The general fund budget is $4.2 million.

The new budget is balanced, but includes spending all of the money remaining in the coal option fund, which is $120,965.

The board also approved the tax levy for taxes to be collected in 2017.

The levy is $3.3 million, which is less than the five percent that would have required a truth in taxation hearing.

The county board also serves as the Special Service District ambulance board. It passed the district’s budget, which includes $70,000 for ambulance and fire district equipment. The ambulance district’s levy was set at $110,000.

The county’s updated animal control agreement with the City of Greenville was passed. Greenville and Bond County will each pay 50 percent of the animal control officer’s salary. The city will also pay $400 per month for animal control program expenses.

All motions by the county board were approved on votes of 5 to 0.
