UPDATED: Unit 1 Gets Fourth 2016 Payment

UPDATE: In an earlier version of this story, we reported that Misty Mezo was hired by the Unit 1 school board as the Mulberry Grove High School softball coach. Mezo was in fact hired as an assistant coach. Lindsey Beckham will continue to serve as head coach for the Mulberry Grove softball team. Rachel Brewer was approved by the school board to serve as a volunteer high school assistant softball coach. We apologize for the confusion.

The Mulberry Grove Board of Education met Tuesday night.

In the treasurer’s report, Superintendent Brad Turner said the district received the fourth categorical state aid payment for transportation and special education from last year. A portion of the payment came in the last part of December with the remainder arriving the first part of January. Turner said fund balances are holding strong. The district received about $10,300.00 in January from the new 1% sales tax revenue. Turner said about 55% of budgeted revenues for the fiscal year were received by December 31, 2016, the middle of the fiscal year, and approximately 50% of budgeted expenditures were paid out by the end of the first half of the year.

The board approved high school graduation for Saturday, May 20, at 2:00 p.m.

Following a closed session, the board accepted the resignation of elementary school personal care aide Anne Burris.
