Esther H. Thole

Esther H. Thole, age 88 of Carlyle, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Mrs. Thole was born on November 3, 1928, in St. Rose, Illinois a daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Kampwerth) Buehne. She married Edmund A. Thole on November 15, 1950, at St. Rose Church in St. Rose. Edmund preceded her in death on January 13, 2011.

Esther worked on the family farm and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing euchre and quilting. Mrs. Thole was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and St. Ann Altar Sodality.

She is survived by her children – Michael Thole and wife Kathryn of Carlyle, Kenneth Thole of Carlyle, Carolyn Davenport and husband Richard of Beckemeyer, Thomas Thole and wife Debra of Highland, Linda Mensing and husband Jim of Beckemeyer, and Janice Feldman and husband Jim of Carlyle; 12 grandchildren – Stephanie Richter and husband Craig, Susan Howard and husband Mike, Stacie Perez and husband Dennis, Stephen Thole and wife Megan, Nicole Porter and husband Erik, Amanda Boeing and husband Nick, Justin Oliver, Kimberly Hegger and husband Jason, Chelsey Pollman and husband Terry, Kyle Mensing and wife Kandi, Tracy Mensing, and Kelly Voss and husband Kurt; 16 great grandchildren – Maci, Kendal, Kadence and Mabree Richter, Reagan and Camdyn Porter, Brayden and Ryker Hegger, Kenna Pollman, Annabelle and Beckett Howard, Kynlee Perez, Kasen and Knox Mensing, Landon Grapperhaus, and Teagan Voss. Esther is also survived by her brothers – Norbert Buehne and wife Betty of Aviston and Eugene Buehne of St. Rose; her sisters – Imy Luber and husband Leon of Highland and Lorene Rehkemper and husband Eugene of St. Rose; sisters-in-law – Janet Thole of Albers and Victoria Thole of Carlyle; and her brothers-in-law – Ron Moss of Highland and Ralph Thole of St. Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Lawrence and Mary Buehne; her husband – Edmund A. Thole; her sisters – Lucille Thole and her husband Louis, and Carol Moss; and her sisters-in-law – Regina Buehne, Geraldine Buehne, Margaret Thole, and Marie Wessel and her husband Lawrence; and 2 brothers-in-law – Alfred Thole and Ben Thole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Thole are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
