Mabel Ruth Lauderdale

Mabel Ruth Lauderdale, age 91 of Carlyle, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 26, 2017.

Mrs. Lauderdale was born on March 9, 1926, in Eddyville, Illinois, a daughter of Merida and Effie (Morse) Melear. She married James Boyd Lauderdale in Durand, Michigan on November 22, 1944, and he preceded her in death on November 5, 2007.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mabel was also preceded in death by her brothers – Lindsey Melear, Cletus Melear, and Theodore Melear; and her sisters – Reva Morse, Ethel Depper, and Edna Moody.

Mrs. Lauderdale is survived by 2 daughters – Dinah Lauderdale of Peru, Illinois and Sandra Engelmann and husband Bill of Carlyle; 6 grandchildren – Matthew Peters and wife Tabitha, Brenda Peters, Kristopher Hunter and special friend Jennifer Deschene, Holly Diekemper and husband Kent, Heidi Hediger and fiancé Nathan Antony, and Jonathan Hediger and special friend Sydney Lashbrook; 8 great grandchildren; and a brother – Kenneth Melear of Marion, Illinois.

Mabel was a seamstress at Robkin Upholstery in Morris, Illinois before moving from Joliet to Carlyle in 1981. She and her husband lived at the Sportsmen’s Club, where they enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Mabel also loved quilting, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint.

A funeral service will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Lauderdale may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
