State Three Point Contest


Greenville High School sophomore Brock Nelson made 7 of 15 shots in the first round of the Class 2A state three-point contest Thursday.

That was not enough to advance to the finals. The state competition was at Carver Arena in Peoria.

There were 32 shooters from throughout the state who were in the Class 2A state preliminary round. One sank 14 of 15 shots. Four others made 13 of 15 and had a shoot-off for the final three positions.

The only player from southern Illinois to advance¬ to the final four was Trevor Meier, a senior from Nashville High School.

Brock Nelson is the son of Jerry and Sue Ann Nelson of rural Greenville.

Brock is the second member of his family to participate in the state three-point contest. Her junior season, Brock’s sister, Afton, placed third in the state.
