Crash Sends One To Hospital


A two-vehicle crash Thursday, May 25, at 9:08 p.m., on Rt. 16 in Montgomery County, sent one man to the hospital.

According to Illinois State Police, Navdeep Singh, age 29, of Ontario, was driving a semi-truck pulling a trailer. He turned onto West County Line Road and backed across Il-Rt. 16. While in the process of backing, the driver side tires of the trailer went off the roadway and became stuck with the truck blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes of Rt. 16. James Archibald Sr., age 62, of Gillespie, was driving a Ford passenger car westbound on Rt. 16 and hit the trailer.

Air Medical Service took Archibald to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with critical injuries.

Rt. 16 was closed for about three hours.

The driver of the truck was cited for alleged improper parking on the roadway.

Other agencies on the scene include Macoupin and Montgomery Counties Sheriff’s Officers, Litchfield Police, and Litchfield and Gillespie Firefighters.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the accident.
