Culah L. Thiems, age 100 of Old Ripley, passed away 4:40 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Helia Healthcare in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Old Ripley Church of Christ.
Culah Loretta, the daughter of Thomas Franklin and Elizabeth (Mollett) Caulk, was born July 12, 1916 in Old Ripley, Illinois. She grew up on the Caulk Farm and attended Ray School and the Old Ripley Schools. Culah was united in marriage on February 13, 1935 to Herbert George Thiems. They were married at the home of Rev. R. T. Hickerson. Culah and Herbert enjoyed many years together before his passing on April 4, 1975.
Surviving is a son, Bob Thiems and his wife Patty of Old Ripley, Illinois and a daughter-in-law Rosalie Thiems. She was the loving grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of many and great-great grandmother of 5.
Culah was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons: LaMoin Thiems and LaVern Thiems, and was the last of her generation: Leo Caulk, Orville Caulk, Raymond Caulk, Rhonda Landolt, Ruby Green, Chalmers Caulk, Delmar Caulk, Eva Bilyeu, Iva Gaffner and Ida Bassett. Culah was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Carol Stearns.
