Motorcycle Driver Killed In Accident

A motorcycle and farm implement accident Monday, May 22, at 5:14 p.m., claimed the life of the motorcycle driver.

According to Illinois State Police, Robert L. Welsh, age 47, of Mt. Olive, was southbound on a motorcycle on Rt. 66 behind a tractor pulling a trailer. Welsh attempted to pass as the tractor was making a left turn onto Mt. Olive Road, and his motorcycle struck the trailer and he was ejected.

Mt. Olive EMS took Welsh to Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton where Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta pronounced him dead at 5:50 p.m.

Also on the scene were Mt. Olive and Staunton Firefighters, Air Medical Service, Mt. Olive Police, and Macoupin County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Illinois State Police continue to investigate the accident.
