During the recent Bond County Board of Health meeting, board chairman Darryl Bolen was presented a plaque in recognition of his 27 years of service to the health department.

Mark Bleyer was nominated for appointment to the board as Darryl Bolen retires at the end of this month. Dr. Matthew McCullough and Dr. William Ahern were also nominated for additional terms on the board. These nominations will be forwarded to the Bond County Board for consideration.

Health Department Administrator Sean Eifert presented the financial report to the board, explaining the department saw a deficit for the month of May. Due to a lack of state payments for grant programs, revenue was under budget. However, it was reported that payments for June have already reached nearly $160,000.

There was a lengthy discussion about the health department’s mental health program and its financial challenges. The board considered several options for improving the cash position of the program and tabled all options until the July meeting, pending further research.
