Lela E. Hohl

Lela E. Hohl, age 96 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, June 28, in Faith Countryside in Highland, Illinois.

Funeral 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until service time on Sunday. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Gilead Cemetery Fund.

Lela Esther Hohl, the daughter of William Stewart Gillespie and Annie Elizabeth (Willman) Gillespie, was born July 16, 1920 near Woburn, Illinois. Lela grew up in Pocahontas, attended Shawnee School and graduated in 1938 from Pocahontas High School. She went on to business school in St. Louis, Missouri and started working at Southwestern Electric in 1940. Lela worked there for 50 1/2 years.

Lela and Elbert Christ Hohl were united in marriage on July 2, 1943 at Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They were only married 9 years before his sudden passing in 1952. They had no children but are survived by nieces and nephews: Wayne and Ruth Miles, Glenn and Betty Miles, Dennis and Janie File, Janice and Gil Frith and Mark and Lori File.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Bernice Miles and Anna Mae File and a brother Ulysses Richard Gillespie at the age of 3.

Lela was a member of the Presbyterian Church, 50 year member of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
