The regular Mulberry Grove Board of Education meeting Monday began with an amended 2016-2017 budget hearing. Superintendent Brad Turner reviewed the district’s financial situation and changes in the current budget. Although there was deficit spending in some accounts, all accounts are projected to have positive fund balances at the end of the fiscal year.
In the treasurer’s report, Superintendent Turner said the district received the second categorical state aid payment for transportation and a portion of the second payment for special education. He said fund balances are good and general state aid payments continue to arrive on time.
Principal Bobby Koontz highlighted proposed changes to the elementary, junior high, and high school handbooks. The board approved 2017-2018 handbooks with the proposed changes.
The board hired Ben Miller to design a district website for $1500.00 and maintain the website for 2017-2018 for an additional $1000.00. The maintenance fee will be $1200.00 for subsequent years.
Following a closed session, the board hired several coaches. They are: Jim Quick junior high – high school volleyball, Scott Voyles junior high baseball and assistant high school baseball, Derek Reckmann assistant junior high baseball, Mark Bollinger high school boys basketball, Jordan Zeeb assistant high school baseball, Misty Mezo junior high – high school softball, Brianna Smith assistant junior high girls basketball, Chris Johnson assistant junior high boys basketball, Regina Johnson junior high cheerleading, Missy Vohlken high school cheerleading, and Zoe Zinkgraf assistant junior high softball.
