Interest is growing among citizens regarding Mt. Auburn Cemetery at the east edge of Greenville.
Many have voiced concerns during the past couple of months about the upkeep of the cemetery.
Although the cemetery is owned by a Vandalia couple, several local citizens have been visiting the cemetery on weekends to make sure it is in good shape. The owners want to sell the cemetery.
It has been suggested that the citizen’s group find a way to obtain the cemetery and form an association to oversee its operation.
At a recent public meeting, Shane Weathers, leader of the citizen’s group, said any money donated would not go to the current cemetery owners. He said manpower isn’t a concern, but finances are needed for dependable equipment.
