The HSHS Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop had a surprise for one of their special customers on Wednesday, June 7. Aileen Hucker of Hillsboro was celebrating her 102nd Birthday and told her daughter Nancy Glassmeyer what she wanted to do for her birthday was to go to the Auxiliary Thrift Shop, her favorite place to shop. When Glassmeyer shared that with the Thrift Shop management, they planned a special surprise for Hucker when she came in for her birthday shopping trip.

When Hucker arrived to shop with her daughter and granddaughter, Anne Foster, the Thrift Shop staff presented her with a birthday card from HSHS Holy Family Hospital, a gift certificate to the Thrift Shop, birthday balloons and a Belgium chocolate rose.

Hucker and her family were touched by the gifts and it reinforced their love for the Thrift Shop volunteers. They shared with staff that they have not only been regular customers for several years, but they also bring donations to the Thrift Shop on a regular basis because it is such a nice store and they really enjoy the friendly people in Greenville at the Thrift Shop.

Marian Embry, HSHS Holy Family Hospital’s Director of Volunteer Services, shared, “It was a great day at the Thrift Shop – I am not sure who blessed who more. Aileen, her daughter and granddaughter were so delightful. It was such a blessing to see the smiles and be a part of this very special birthday celebration.”

The Auxiliary Thrift Shop is located at 700 South Fourth Street in Greenville. Since the doors opened in September of 1990, the Thrift Shop has been a significant income generator for the HSHS Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary. As a resource to the community, it accepts clothing and other household items for resale. The Thrift Shop supports many charitable donations throughout the year including fundraisers and vouchers for nonprofit organizations, and those in need.
