Ruth C. Reker


Ruth C. Reker nee Koelz, age 92 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden, IL.

She was born October 14, 1924, in rural Highland, IL, the daughter of William and Theresa (nee Henze) Koelz.

On July 16, 1946, she married Edwin Ernst E. Reker at the E & R Church in Marine, IL. He passed away on January 07, 2015.

She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of VFW Post 5694 – Auxillary, Highland, IL.

Ruth was born on the family farm south of Highland. She worked at the Moulton Bartley Shoe Factory and worked for the War Effort during WW II. She met her husband at a dance at Lindendale Park just before he left for his service during WW II. She wrote Edwin while he was away and they married shortly after he came home. Their romance was a “True Love Story”. They owned and operated K&R Grocery Store and she did seamstress work. She later stayed at home after her children were born and growing up working as a seamstress at home. She later worked at Wal-Mart as the Manager of the Fabric Dept. She and her husband loved to go dancing, playing cards, and bowling.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL .

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton Manor Living Center; Evangelical United Church of Christ or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
