Bond County Unit #2 administrators, staff and teachers recently completed training at the Summer Institute in Character Education, held at the Center for Character & Citizenship located in the College of Education on University of Missouri St. Louis’s south campus.

The institute was a concentrated learning experience in the theory and practical application for creating schools of character and excellence. The week-long intensive was taught by Dr. Marvin Berkowitz, the Sanford N. McDonnell Professor of Character Education and Dr. Amy Johnston, former Principal at Frances Howell Middle School in St. Charles, Missouri.

Participants read Thomas Lickona’s book Character Matters and Dr. Berkowitz’s book, “You Can’t Teach Through a Rat”, as part of their work assignment. At conclusion of the institute, each school received a stack of books from the Center for their school library on personal and corporate character in schools and communities.

The cost for BCCU#2 participants were paid by the Bond County Unit 2 Character Education Committee.
