The Greenville Bluejays’ baseball team will play for a regional championship Monday afternoon.
The local junior high team beat Liberty of Edwardsville 7 to 1 in the semifinal round Saturday.
Mason Barnes was the winning pitcher, tossing six and two-thirds innings. He allowed only two hits and struck out five.
Isaac Turner smacked two triples and drove in two runs. Barnes had four hits and three RBIs, while Steven Jack and Jack Schaufelberger banged out two hits each. Peyton McCullough, Ryan Jackson and Jaylon Betts also hit safely.
Greenville enters Monday’s regional title game with a 21 and 4 record. The opposing team, Lincoln of Edwardsville, is 14 and 1. The game starts at 4:15 p.m. at the Greenville Junior High field.
