City Council Talks Real Estate

Real estate was the only topic of discussion when the Greenville City Council met in special session Monday evening.

After 30 minutes in closed session, the council approved a motion to counter an offer for city-owned property for the full appraised value of the property. The motion also asks that the potential buyer pay for survey and land elevation work.

City Manager Dave Willey told WGEL that the offer for the piece of property, located on the shore of Governor Bond Lake, was 80 percent of the appraised value. He said that is the least the city is allowed to consider for an outright sale of property.

The person making the offer for the city’s strip of property, owns land on the other side of it.
