During homecoming festivities at Greenville University over the weekend, the Alumni Association presented three special awards.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award went to Dr. Paul Heath, a 1972 graduate, from the Minneapolis, Minnesota area.
With an expertise in plastic surgery, Dr. Heath has taken his clinic staff on annual trips to Guatemala for more than 25 years, to provide reconstructive surgery, primarily to children born with cleft palates or disfigured from burns.
The Outstanding Young Alumna Award went to Sarah Coleman Toth, who graduated in 2006.
She has traveled the world as a professional opera singer.
Toth currently lives in Germany for further work in opera studies.
She has performed operas, recitals and oratorios internationally.
James and Susan Claussen were presented the Loyalty Award. They met and married at the college in the late 1950s and have been long-time supporters of Greenville University.
Jim Claussen served on the university’s board of trustees from 1975 to 2011 and was on a number of board committees and task forces. The Claussens have hosted many alumni events over the past 40 years, near their home in Florida.
Alumni Awards were presented during the chapel service on Friday.
