High School Football Playoffs


Several area high school football teams will be in the IHSA playoffs this weekend.

The Greenville Comets are in is in Class 3A and the Comets will play at Sesser-Valier High School at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at WGEL.com.

Sesser is located south of Woodlawn in Franklin County, near Benton.

The schedule for other local Class 3A games includes Wood River at Carlinville and Alton Marquette at Newton at 7 P.M. Friday.

Games at 2 p.m. Saturday include Vandalia at Fairfield, Hillsboro at Anna-Jonesboro, Du Quoin at Pana, and Pleasant Plains at Trenton Wesclin.

In Class 2A, Carlyle plays at Sciota West Prairie at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Bunker Hill is at Downs Tri-Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday, and Red Bud plays at Eldorado at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In Class 4A, Highland will host Quincy Notre Dame and Columbia goes to Herscher. Both games are Friday at 7 p.m.

Manteno travels to Effingham and Carterville is at Belleville Althoff. Kickoff for both games is 2 p.m. Saturday.

In Class 5A, Peoria Richwoods is at Triad Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Morton plays at Centralia at 2 p.m. Saturday.

In Class 7A, Belleville West goes to Buffalo Grove for a 2 p.m. game Saturday and Libertyville is at East St. Louis 3 p.m. Saturday.

Edwardsville travels to Huntley in Class 8A for a 7 p.m. game Friday.

In Class 1A, Madison plays at Carrollton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
