The football season came to an end Saturday afternoon for the Greenville Comets.

Hosting a Class 3A second round playoff game, the Comets lost to Vandalia 27-14.

Vandalia led 7-6 after one quarter then scored late in the second quarter to hold a 13-6 lead at halftime.

The Vandals scored the only touchdown in the third quarter and both teams posted a TD in the final frame.

Comet touchdowns included a 38-yard run by Christian Moss and a 53-yard pass from Wil Harnetiaux to Brandon Hamel. A pass play from Harnetiaux to Hunter Robinson was good on a two-point extra point.

Comet Coach Todd Hutchinson said he is proud of his team this season. He said the coaching staff challenges the players to fight hard and do well in the classroom. He says they’ll be successful, no matter what they do. Hutch noted the loss hurts, but it was a victory for the team to win some of the conference games they did.
