The second round of the Illinois High School Association football playoffs is this weekend with all games to be played Saturday afternoon.
The Greenville Comets are at home for a 1 p.m. game against South Central Conference rival Vandalia. The Comets have an 8 and 2 record with one of those wins a 40 to 36 decision over the Vandals in week three of the season.
Vandalia owns a 7 and 3 record.
GHS best Sesser-Valier in a first-round game last Saturday by the score of 39-20 while Vandalia was a 41-14 winner over Fairfield.
Saturday’s Class 3A game at Don Stout Field will be broadcast on WGEL Radio with the pre-game show starting about 12:40 p.m. The game will also be streamed at WGEL dot com.
Other 3A games Saturday include Carlinville at Decatur St. Teresa and Pana at Anna-Jonesboro, both at 2 p.m.
In Class 4A, undefeated Highland will host 9 and 1 Effingham in a 3 p.m. contest and in Class 2A, Carlyle, 7 and 3, will be at home against Westville, 10-0, with kickoff at 2 p.m.
Other games with area teams include Belleville Althoff at Rochester and Taylorville at Herscher in Class 4A, Lincoln Way West at Alton and Buffalo Grove at East St. Louis in Class 7A, and Edwardsville at Palatine in Class 8A.
