Veterans Street Naming

Another stretch of a Greenville street has an honorary name.

During Saturday’s Veterans Day program in Greenville, Mayor Pro-Tem John Gillard, a veteran, read a proclamation, issued by Mayor Alan Gaffner, naming part of Harris Avenue for local veterans.

Before a large crowd attending the program at the Greenville First United Methodist Church, Gillard thanked, on behalf of the city council, all service men and women for their sacrifices, and read from a city proclamation.

The designation of Veterans’ Memorial Avenue is honorary. The legal and mailing addresses for residences and businesses will remain Harris Avenue.

Mayor Gaffner expressed regrets he was unable to attend the Veterans Day program due to a work assignment out-of-town.

This is the second honorary street in Greenville. The first, a section of Second Street, was named this past summer for Darryl Bolen.
