Bike Path Engineering

Meeting Tuesday night, the Greenville City Council approved a contract with Juneau Associates to do engineering work and apply for a grant to possibly construct a bike path or shared use sidewalk on the west side of Elm Street from Spring Street, south to Route 40.

City Manager said the city sought the proposal from an engineering firm to apply for Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant funds. The money would be used to develop a wide path from where the sidewalks end on Elm Street going down to Rt. 40.

City and Greenville University personnel have met and there is an interest in the project.

Willey said the subject came up during public bike path discussions, since there is a lot of student traffic to the university’s playing fields and other facilities on South Elm Street.

The cost for the engineering work and assisting with the grant application is $9,600.
