Kaleb Ephron sank 3 free throws in the final 35 seconds of Thursday night’s game as the Greenville Comets pulled out a 69 to 67 win over Metro East Lutheran at the Litchfield Invitational.
Metro East had the basketball the final 15 seconds, but the intense defensive pressure by the Comets didn’t allow the Knights to get off a shot.
The Comets led by 18 points in the second quarter and 17 at halftime.
Metro East battled back in the second half and took a one-point lead with about a minute to play, but the Knights fouled and Ephron got his chances at the free throw line.
The Comets had an outstanding night in three-point shooting, sinking 14 as a team. Brock Nelson had 8 of those 3-point buckets for 24 points.
Ephron finished the game with 20 points and Lucas Carlson had 12.
The Comets are 2 and 1 in the tournament and play for 5th place Saturday at 4 p.m. against Hillsboro. The game will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at WGEL.com.
