Christian Moss sank a three-pointer just before the final buzzer to give the Greenville Comets a 48 to 45 win at Southwestern Piasa Friday night.
It was a close game all the way with Southwestern leading by a point after one quarter and the Comets in front 23 to 22 at halftime.
The teams shared leads in the third quarter, but it ended with Greenville High in front by 5.
The Comets led by 7 a couple of times early in the 4th quarter, but Southwestern battled back to tie the score with just over a minute remaining.
The Comets held the ball the final minute for the last shot and Moss fired up the big three-pointer with about three-seconds on the clock.
Moss ended the game with 12 points. Top scorer for GES was Kaleb Ephron with 17, and Chad Stearns posted 11 points.
The big win over Southwestern was the first conference loss for the Birds, and kept the Comets in first place with a 5 and 0 South Central Conference record. Greenville is 9 and 8 overall.
The Comets play in the Litchfield Invitational this afternoon against Roxana. Tip-off is at 2:30.
