Ruby Darlene Mays, age 76, died January 19 in a mobile home fire in Shobonier.
Fayette County Coroner David Hejl told WGEL that Mays’ death was cigarette-smoking related and she died as a result of the fire. He is still waiting for the final investigative report from the Office of State Fire Marshal.
The Vandalia Fire department was called at 9:56 p.m. and received mutual aid assistance from the St. Peter and Patoka departments.
Mays was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner Hejl said Vandalia firemen did an excellent job to quickly extinguish the fire, thus saving a lot of property in the mobile home.
