Aubree Hammer, age 24 of Vandalia, remains incarcerated in the Fayette County jail pending sentencing on a Class X charge of aggravated battery to a child under 13.
She pled guilty to the charge on October 3, 2017 and at least four sentencing hearings have been postponed. A status hearing is scheduled in court for Thursday morning.
The defendant’s court-appointed attorney is Patrick Schaufelberger.
At the time of the incident, Hammer’s child was only a few months old. The charge alleges she held the child and threw him to the wooden floor, causing brain damage.
The defendant has told the court she wants a psychiatrist, who initially evaluated her, to testify at her sentencing hearing. The psychiatrist is at Los Angeles, California.
