James A. Vogel, age 74 of Bartelso, passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Thursday, January 4, 2018.
Mr. Vogel was born in Breese, Illinois on May 6, 1943, a son of Hershel and Ida (Wuebbles) Vogel. He married Jeanette Trame in Bartelso on May 9, 1964, and she survives in Bartelso.
In addition to his wife Jeanette, Mr. Vogel is also survived by his children – Lisa Hellmann and husband Randy of Carlyle and Jeff Vogel and wife Geralyn of Breese; 3 grandchildren – Michael Hellmann, Patrick Vogel and Connor Vogel; a brother – Robert Vogel of Maryville; and his in-laws – Dolores Rickhoff and husband Edward of Bartelso, Marion Krebs of Breese, and Loretta Trame of Carlyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson – Matthew Hellmann; a brother – Phillip Vogel; and two brothers-in-law – August Trame and Paul Trame.
Jim retired from Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation after 42 years of employment. He favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking care of his lawn and his pecan trees, and also enjoyed working on small engines. Jim was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 8, 2018, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia Church on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. and on Monday from 11:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Vogel are suggested to St. Cecilia Church and will be received at the service or at Zieren Funeral Home.
