Josephine “Jo” Agnes Beckemeyer

Josephine “Jo” Agnes Beckemeyer of Carlyle died on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.

She was born on January 21, 1941, on the family farm in Beckemeyer. She was the youngest of 12 children of Gerhard and Josephine (Rakers) Kampwerth. Jo was a graduate of Mater Dei High School and Kaskaskia College. She married Wayne H. Beckemeyer on May 4, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1996.

Mrs. Beckemeyer is survived by two sons, Curt and wife Joan Luebbers of Champaign and Jeffrey and wife Christina Roesch of Forsyth; five grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew and Patrick children of Curt and Joan and Justin and Katelyn children of Jeffrey and Christina. Mrs. Beckemeyer is survived by four brothers, Cornelius “Bud” Kampwerth, Frank Kampwerth and wife Lucille, Roland Kampwerth and wife Rosemary, and Gerald Kampwerth and friend Violet all of Carlyle; her in-laws, Ruby Beckemeyer and Ray Diekemper of Carlyle and Alberta Kampwerth of Highland; and her many nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband Wayne, she was preceded in death by father and mother-in-law Fred (Amanda) Beckemeyer and Kathryn Beckemeyer; several siblings and spouses, Sister Veronica Kampwerth, SSND, Regina and Louis Seiffert, Herman Kampwerth, Urban and Frances Kampwerth, Norbert and Alice Kampwerth, Joseph and Agnes Kampwerth, Leonilda Diekemper, Marcella Kampwerth, and Linda Kampwerth; and in laws, Herbert (Geneva) Beckemeyer and Ruth Beckemeyer, Calvin and Marilyn Beckemeyer, Clinton and Mary Ann Beckemeyer, Robert and Wilma Beckemeyer, Alvin Beckemeyer, and Elmer “Bud” and Loretta Dorries.

Mrs. Beckemeyer was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a member of the Liturgy Committee, past member of church council, member and past officer of St. Ann’s Altar Sodality, and a member and past officer of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed at Kaskaskia College from 1979 until her retirement in 2008. She was a Kaskaskia College Foundation Trustee and also an Ambassador for Kaskaskia College. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends, volunteering for community activities, and taking the Holy Eucharist to the homebound at St. Mary Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Father George Mauck officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Friday, January 26, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday, January 27 from 8:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. In lieu of other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary Cemetery, or Kaskaskia College Foundation Scholarship Fund.
