Robert E. Briggs of Greenville has pled guilty in Bond County Circuit Court to charges of child pornography.
He was sentenced to 8 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with credit for time served since being charged and incarcerated in April of last year.
Briggs was charged with one count of dissemination of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography.
As part of the sentence, Briggs surrendered computer equipment to the Greenville Police Department for its use in law enforcement. Following Briggs’ release from prison, he will be on supervised release for 3 years.
The investigation began with a tip to Greenville police from the Cyber Tip Line operated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The tip was directed to Sergeant Scott Workman, who is a member of the Illinois Crimes Against Children Task Force. It indicated that on September 28, 2016 someone, using accounts registered to Briggs, allegedly uploaded an image of child pornography, to another computer.
Following the execution of a search warrant, additional images, considered to be child pornography, were discovered on computer equipment seized from Briggs’ home.
