Dorothy A. Vandeloo, age 88 of Bartelso, passed peacefully with her family by her side on February 8, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
Dot was born on June 27, 1929, in Aviston, Illinois, a daughter of Fred and Monica (Hustedde) Hempen. On March 3, 1962, she married Justin “Jetty” Vandeloo in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2002.
Mrs. Vandeloo is survived by her children – Mike Vandeloo and wife Ann-Marie of Bartelso, Nancy Berrigan and husband Pat of The Woodlands, Texas, Dave Vandeloo and wife Micki of Bartelso, and Dan Vandeloo of Bartelso; her grandchildren – Katie Vandeloo; Patrick, Halie, and Ryan Berrigan; Nathan Vandeloo and wife Allyson, and Alex Vandeloo and special friend Larisa Maue; and her sisters-in-law – Mary Ann Hempen, Betsy Hempen, Jane Huels, and Blanche Vandeloo.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers – Boyd Hempen, Paul Hempen, Cletus Hempen, and Joseph Hempen; her sisters-in-law – Barbara Hempen, Lorraine Hempen, and Julie Albers; and her brothers-in-law – Bernard Huels, Robert Albers, and George Vandeloo.
Mrs. Vandeloo was employed at Imming Insurance and Vandeloo Construction. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandkids. Dot had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and quilting. Mrs. Vandeloo was a member of St. Cecilia Church, St. Cecilia Ladies Sodality, Young at Heart Club, Bartelso Community Development, and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She valued the time she spent supporting her parish and her community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 12, 2018, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. and on Monday from 12:00 Noon – 1:30 P.M.
