Former VCC Guard Pleads Guilty To Drug Charge

Cody Hawkins, age 31, from Taylorville, a former guard at the Vandalia Correction Center, has pled guilty to a drug charge.

Appearing in Fayette County Circuit Court on January 30, Hawkins entered the plea to an amended charge of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

He was sentenced to 2 years probation and 50 days in the county jail, with credit for time served. The jail days have been completed.

Hawkins was arrested on September 20, 2017 by Illinois State Police at the Vandalia prison.

The original charges of bringing a controlled substance into a penal institution and official misconduct were dismissed by the state after the amended charge was filed.
