KPD Board Opening

Last month, the Kingsbury Park District board was unable to come to a decision to appoint a new board member.

The topic came up again Monday evening, with the same result.

The opening came about with the resignation of Jose Lirios. Three individuals, Elizabeth Ward, Vaughn Robart and Gary Trudell have expressed interest in the position.

Monday night, a motion was made by Barb Smith and seconded by Louanne Theiss to appoint Trudell. The motion failed on a 2 to 2 vote with Scott Crothers and Tommy Simpson voting no.

Simpson made a motion to appoint Ward and Crothers seconded it. The vote once again was 2 to 2 with Smith and Theiss against.

A third motion to appoint Robart was made by Crothers and seconded by Simpson. It was a 2 to 2 vote with Crothers and Simpson in favor and Smith and Theiss against.

Smith said she had conducted some research and thought that drawing a name out of a hat or container could be done to select the next park district board member. Crothers and Simpson challenged that thought.

It was agreed by all four members to seek advice from Park District Attorney Jeff Mollet regarding the legal way to appoint a board member, and see if there are any options.
