Reginald W. “Reggie” Weihe

Reginald W. “Reggie” Weihe, age 87 of Hoffman, passed away at Carlyle Healthcare Center on Friday, February 23, 2018.

Mr. Weihe was born in rural Carlyle, Illinois on August 17, 1930, a son of William and Hilda (Maschhoff) Weihe. He married Doris Gerstkemper on September 26, 1954, and she survives in Hoffman.

In addition to his wife Doris, Reggie is also survived by a son – Dan Weihe of Carlyle; a daughter – Carolyn Welz and husband Todd of Highland; 2 granddaughters – Hayley and Shanna Welz; a sister – Shirley Schroeder and husband Don of Centralia; a sister-in-law – Vera Johnson of Centralia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother – Allan Weihe and wife Joyce; and his brothers-in-law – Ralph Johnson, Harlan Gerstkemper and wife Hilda and Willard Gerstkemper and wife Darlene.

Mr. Weihe was an insurance agent with Country Companies. Over his 46-year career, he earned many prestigious awards. Reggie was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia where he served as an elder and on the board of education. He served in the United States Army as a fast speed Morse Code radio operator in Japan during the Korean War. Reggie enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball and loved bowling. He won many bowling tournaments over the years and was elected to the Greater Carlyle Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 203 South Pleasant Ave, Centralia, IL 62801. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

Expressions of sympathy in memory or Mr. Weihe are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia or to Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School and will be received at the church or at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
