Richard C. Shaw, age 89 of Greenville, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until service time at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
Richard Charles, the son of Ernie Charles and Sadie Belle (McCullah) Shaw, was born November 30, 1928 on the family farm in Old Ripley Township. He grew up on the family farm, attended the one-room schools and Greenville High School. Richard worked in the Body Shop of Jentman Chevrolet in Highland, Illinois. He then worked for Central Garage in Greenville. Mr. Shaw was a farmer most of his life, farming 50+ years, retiring at the age of 75.
Richard and Shirley Ann Mumbower were united in marriage on August 28, 1950. They have enjoyed spending 67 years together. Richard and Shirley were members of the Greenville First Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley, son Dennis Charles Shaw and wife Gale of north of Greenville, daughter Patricia Ann Hunter and husband William of Greenville, 5 grandchildren: Denise Lile and husband Michael of Greenville, Rachel Taylor and husband Josh of Carlyle, IL, Stacy Joseph and husband Scott of Bloomington, IN and Scott Hunter and wife Trina of St. Charles, MO and Jessica Holcomb of Greenville. He was also the loving great-grandfather of 8 and one great-grandson on the way.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vera Turley.
He was a member of Bond County Farm Bureau and Bond County Saddle Club.
