Youth Try New Food With Smarter Lunchroom Program

Students at Carlyle Elementary School had a fun chance to sample Cowboy Caviar on Tuesday, January 30. Illinois Extension Educator, Ashley Hoffman and Connie Geoffray, head of district food service, dressed up as cowgirls to pass out Cowboy Caviar during lunch. Students who tried the new food got a sticker that says “I tried it.”

Carlyle is one of several local schools that participate in the ABC’s of School Nutrition, Smarter Lunchroom program. The program looks at changes that can be made in the school lunchroom that will encourage youth to eat healthier foods.
