A driver struck a Bond County Sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle near the 41 MM exit from I-70 Saturday night after a short pursuit.
Bond County Sheriff Jim Leitschuh told WGEL Radio that a sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over the driver around the 36MM on I-70 around 9:38 PM Saturday night but the driver continued on I-70 and exited at the 41 MM exit. Police say the driver was driving erratically and was suspected of driving under the influence. After exiting the interstate the driver slowed and attempted to turn around.
K-9 officer Doug Nicoson positioned his vehicle in the drivers path and his front right side panel was struck and the car became stuck. Leitschuh told WGEL Radio that the accident did not happen at a high speed and thankfully deputy Nicoson was not injured. Illinois State Police handled the accident and the driver was a female from Edwardsville, but no other information has been released.
