Guy L. Knight, age 87 of Greenville, passed away at 5:22 a.m. Thursday morning, March 15, 2018 at his home with his wife and family at his side.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Father Alan Hunter and Rev. Father Zack Edgar officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 282, V.F.W. Post 1377 and AmVets Post 140. The Rosary will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with visitation there from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials in Guy’s memory may be made to the Bond County Right to Life, The Pregnancy Support Center, or to Bond County Hospice at the services or at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home.
Guy Lawrence, the son of Glen Chester and Anna Mae Braden Knight, was born April 7, 1930 in Flint, Michigan. Guy grew up in Joplin, Missouri, moving there at the age of 6mo. He attended the local schools and graduated from Carl Junction High School with the class of 1948. Guy moved to St. Louis, Missouri, working for Central States Paper and Bag Company.
Guy served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged. After his return, he and Dorothy moved to Filmore, Illinois where he farmed for 3 years. He drove a bus for the City of St. Louis for 6 years, worked at Toberman Grain Company in East St. Louis, Illinois. In 1966 Guy started working for Kroger in Cahokia, Illinois, then Greenville and Hillsboro, Effingham Kroger retiring in 1993 after 27 years with the company. Guy then worked for Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville for 11 years, helping with visitations and funerals in his retirement, Guy was an avid Cardinal’s Fan.
Guy and Dorothy M. Sullivan were united in marriage on July 8, 1950 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in St. Louis, Missouri. They have enjoyed 67 years together. Surviving are their children: Harold “Sonny” Knight and wife Dawn, Robert “Bob” Knight and wife Patty, Christine Ray and husband Moddrell, Kathy Henderson, Steve Knight and wife Patty, Theresa Dissen and husband Warren, Glen Knight and wife Juliane. Loving grandfather to: Joseph, Ryan, Carrie Urbanski and husband Joe, Robert “Bobby” Knight and wife Angela, Katie Rodriguez and husband Santiago, Colleen VanFleit and husband Jimmy, Chrissie Doty and husband Brock, Kevin Knight, Kelli Knight, Adam Moddrell and wife Melissa, Alex Moddrell and wife Kristen, Annie Seitelman and husband James, Andrew Moddrell, Christopher Henderson, Clark Henderson, Ellen Reeves and husband James, Emily Henderson, Maria Knight, Marcus Knight, Jared Paine and wife Debbie, Quentin Dissen, Sydney Dissen, Madelyn Knight and Abigail Knight. Great-Grandfather of : Nolan, Grace, Jack, Anna, Bob, Clara, Gabe, Joel, Ben, AJ, Henry, Calvin, Dorothy, Natalie, Luke, Jacob, Charles, Devon, Shayna, Sophia and Aurora.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Fred Knight, June Knight, Carolyn Cole, Jim Knight, Kate Simpson, Roseann Jones, Mary Hudson and John Knight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stanley Knight, sister Glenna Woodworth and sister Betty Pilgrim.
Guy and Dorothy were faithful members of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Bond County Right To Life, Guy was a member of the Knights of Columbus and both helped at the Pregnancy Support Center.
